Chime statement to QuickBooks or Xero: PDF statements, import and tie-out

Chime accounts turn up often in small-business books: sole proprietors, gig workers and side businesses that run their money through a Chime Checking account. The bookkeeping question is always the same: how do the months get into QuickBooks or Xero, and how do you prove nothing is missing?

What Chime gives you

  • Monthly PDF statements. In the Chime app: Profile → Documents → Account statements, pick the account and month, then use the export icon at the top right. On chime.com: Profile → Documents, then choose the statement under Account Statements (Chime: view or download account statements).
  • No paper statements. Chime says it doesn't provide physical statements; you download and print them yourself (Chime).
  • Statement periods. Checking and Savings statements are generated monthly. Credit Builder statements follow its billing cycle, so they may not end on the last day of the month (Chime).
  • No file download that we could find. Chime's statement help page describes PDF statements only. We didn't find a CSV, Excel, QFX or QuickBooks (.qbo) transaction download on the Chime pages we read, so treat the PDF as the source for each month. If a client's app shows an export option we haven't seen, use it and still tie it out to the PDF.
  • How far back. Chime's help page doesn't say how many months of statements stay available, and third-party sites disagree. Check what the client's Account statements list shows and download every month you need now.

Chime describes itself as a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services are provided by The Bancorp Bank, N.A. or Stride Bank, N.A., and Chime says to check the back of the card for its issuing bank (chime.com). Note which one applies in your workpapers, since it may be the name on the client's account documents.

Bank feeds: don't count on one

  • We didn't find a Chime or Intuit page that says whether Chime connects to QuickBooks Online as a bank feed. To check, go to Bank transactions → Link account and search for it. Intuit says that if you can't find your bank but can sign in to its website, you can select Request a provider, and that download timespans vary by bank, from 90 days up to 24 months (Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online, updated Oct 1, 2026).
  • Intuit also says accountants can't connect a bank account for their clients; the client has to do that step (Intuit).
  • Chime's help pages mention Plaid for linking Chime to payment apps such as Cash App and Venmo (Chime: use Chime with third-party payment apps). They don't mention QuickBooks or Xero, so a Plaid link for a payment app tells you nothing about whether an accounting feed will work.
  • We didn't check Xero's bank feed list for Chime. Either way, a feed only brings in recent history, so catch-up months still come from the PDFs.

1. Download every statement, one file per month

  • Download each month for each account the business uses, from the first month the books need through the latest statement.
  • Name the files by account and period (for example chime-checking_2026-03.pdf) so a missing month is obvious.
  • Ask the client which Chime accounts carry business money. Personal-only accounts usually stay out of the books; that's a decision for the client and their accountant.

2. Split the statement by account

Chime says one statement may include separate sections for each account, such as Checking, Savings and Credit Builder or Chime Card. Each section shows the ending balance for that account only, and a section can show a $0 ending balance even though money is available. Chime names the sections "Checking Account Statement", "Savings Account Statement", "Credit Builder Secured Account Billing Statement" and "Chime Card Secured Account Billing Statement" (Chime).

  • Treat each section as its own account in QuickBooks or Xero, with its own file and its own tie-out. Don't add the sections together.
  • Don't treat a $0 ending balance in one section as an error by itself. Check it against that section's opening balance and transactions.
  • Transfers between Checking and Savings show up in both sections. Record them as transfers between the two accounts, not as income or expenses, and check both sides match.
  • How to book the Credit Builder or Chime Card secured account is an accounting decision. Agree it with the client's accountant before you import those sections.

3. Tie out each month before you import

  1. For each account section: opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = ending balance, to the cent.
  2. Chain the months: each ending balance equals the next statement's opening balance for the same account.
  3. Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF.

The full method, with a worked example, is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing.

4. Bring the months into QuickBooks Online

  • Intuit's manual upload is for when you can't connect your bank or need earlier transactions. It accepts an account statement as a PDF or image, from any bank as long as it's in English, or a list of transactions as a QBO, QFX or CSV file (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026).
  • For a PDF, QuickBooks extracts the transactions and shows a side-by-side view of the statement and what it extracted. Check it against your tie-out before you save. A multi-section Chime statement needs extra care here: make sure each section's lines land in the right QuickBooks account.
  • A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), and up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit).
  • Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account. If a feed is connected, upload only dates before the feed started. See duplicate transactions after a bank upload.

QuickBooks Desktop takes bank transactions as Web Connect .qbo files. See can QuickBooks Desktop import a PDF bank statement.

5. Bring the months into Xero

  • In Xero organizations in the US and Canada (not on the Xero Ledger plan), you can import a PDF statement through Import a Statement. Xero publishes a list of banks whose selected statement types have validated PDF extraction. Chime (and The Bancorp Bank and Stride Bank) wasn't on that list when we checked on 26 Oct 2026, and Xero says accuracy might vary for banks that aren't listed (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement).
  • Xero's PDF limits: English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected. Xero says to import a file for each bank account separately (Xero Central), which matters for a Chime statement with several sections.
  • Because Chime isn't on the validated list, a CSV you have tied out first is the safer route. Xero's CSV needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format).
  • Go to Accounting → Bank accounts, open the account's menu, choose Import a Statement, then review before you complete the import. Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but feed and file lines can differ, so import only the months the account doesn't already have.

6. Reconcile each month

  • Reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first, to that account section's ending balance.
  • If QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, stop and fix it rather than forcing an adjustment. See beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits

If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.
