Found statement to QuickBooks or Xero: PDF statements, the Activity CSV and tie-out

Found is a business banking and bookkeeping app for self-employed people. Found says it is a financial technology company, not a bank; banking services are provided by Lead Bank, Member FDIC (Found: are my deposits FDIC-insured?). Because Found does its own bookkeeping, clients often arrive with years of activity in Found and nothing in QuickBooks or Xero. Here's what Found gives you to move it.

What Found gives you

  • Monthly bank statements (PDF). In Found, on mobile or at found.com: Settings → Statements and documents → Bank statements, then choose a statement; it opens in the browser as a PDF. A month-to-date statement is available at any time, and the final statement by the 2nd of the following month. Found says statements cover transactions into and out of the Found account and do not include manual bookkeeping items added for transactions outside it (Found: where can I find my bank statements?).
  • Activity CSV export. Activity → three dots → Export activity (on desktop, Export) → choose a date range and the details to include → Export. The CSV is emailed to the address on the account. Found says this exports all activity, including manually created bookkeeping items, and points you to the bank statements if you only want the Found account's own deposits and transactions (Found: how do I export my bookkeeping details?).
  • Accountant access. The client can invite you under Settings → Team access with the Accountant role. You can view and edit activity, export activity, import CSVs and view and download reports, but you can't move money or change account settings (Found: give my accountant access; Found: what is accountant access?). Neither page says whether an accountant can open the bank statements, so you may still need the client to download them.

Found's QuickBooks link runs the other way

Found's QuickBooks help page is about importing QuickBooks transactions into Found from a CSV (date, title, note and amount columns), and the same for Cash App (Found: how do I import transactions from Cash App or QuickBooks?). We didn't find a Found help page describing a connection that sends Found transactions out to QuickBooks Online or Xero. Don't plan on one: if the client's books are moving to QuickBooks or Xero, the statements and the CSV are what you have. If you want a live feed later, search for Found in your accounting software's bank connection screen; we haven't confirmed one either way.

Why the Activity CSV isn't a bank statement

  • It can include other accounts. Found Plus and Found Pro subscribers (and all users during a 60-day trial) can connect up to ten outside accounts through Plaid and import or auto-sync their transactions into Found's activity feed. Imported transactions stay in the feed even if the subscription lapses (Found: how do I import transactions from another bank or credit card?).
  • It can include manual entries and CSV imports. Found users can upload CSVs (for example from Cash App or QuickBooks) and add bookkeeping records by hand (Found), and the export includes manually created items (Found).
  • So: before you import a Found CSV into the bank account that represents Found in QuickBooks or Xero, remove every row that isn't a Found bank transaction. The statement is the list to check against, because Found says it excludes manual items. Import an outside card or bank only into its own account, from that institution's own statements.

What Found's help pages don't say

  • How far back statements go, and whether you can still download them after the account closes. Found's closing page says you can log back in after closure to move a remaining balance, but says nothing about statements (Found: how do I close my Found account?). Download every month the books need before the client closes the account.
  • How the Taxes pocket shows up. Every Found account starts with a Primary and a Taxes pocket, and Found can move part of each income deposit into Taxes automatically (Found: how does my Taxes pocket work?). The pages we read don't say whether pocket moves appear on the statement or in the CSV, or as one balance or two. Look at one statement before you decide whether to book the Taxes pocket as its own bank account.
  • The CSV layout. Found doesn't list the export's columns, date format or sign convention, or say whether there's a running balance. Open it before importing.
  • OFX, QFX, .qbo or QuickBooks Desktop. The pages we read mention only PDF statements and CSV. See can QuickBooks Desktop import a PDF bank statement.

Which route for which months

  • Proof for each month: the Found PDF statement. It's the only document Found describes as limited to the Found account itself.
  • The transaction file: the Activity CSV for the statement month, filtered down to Found bank rows, or the statement converted to a file.
  • Going forward: keep exporting monthly, or move the client's day-to-day banking somewhere with a feed into their accounting software.

QuickBooks Online

  • Intuit's manual upload takes a PDF or image statement in English, or a QBO, QFX or CSV file. A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026). If Found's CSV has other columns, delete them or map only these.
  • Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account (Intuit). See duplicate transactions after a bank upload.
  • If you do find a bank connection for Found, Intuit says accountants can't connect a bank account for their clients (Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts, updated Oct 1, 2026), so the client would do that step.

Xero

  • Found and Lead Bank are not on Xero's list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 26 Oct 2026). Xero still accepts PDFs from unlisted banks but says accuracy may vary. Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Check every imported month against the statement.
  • For a CSV, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format). Found doesn't document its CSV layout, so check columns and signs first, and strip non-Found rows.
  • Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.

More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.

Tie out each month before you import

  1. Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Found statement, to the cent.
  2. Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
  3. Sum the filtered CSV rows for the month and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a manual or connected-account row was left in, a Taxes pocket move, or a date range off by a day.
  4. Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF.

The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits

For Found, the PDF statement is often the cleanest record of the bank account, because the CSV can mix in other accounts and manual entries. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.

Skip the manual work

We turn statement PDFs into QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet. $15 per statement-month, $149 for a 12-month catch-up. Prefer to check it yourself? Our tie-out checker runs in your browser. See how pros do catch-up.
