Banner Bank statement to QuickBooks or Xero: Direct Connect, 18 months of eStatements and tie-out
Banner Bank's Business Online Banking page offers three tiers: Basic Business Online Banking, with no monthly fees, for Basic Business, Business Interest and Complete Business checking accounts without treasury management (TMS) bundles; Business Online Banking, for Complete Business Checking and Complete Business Plus Checking clients with TMS bundles; and Commercial Online Banking, for Analyzed Business Checking clients with treasury management services, where TMS fees apply to analysis (Banner Bank: Business Online Banking). Here's what Banner's written pages, its fee schedules and its agreements say, and don't, about getting a business account's history into QuickBooks or Xero. This guide covers those three tiers at bannerbank.com only.
What Banner Bank gives you
- QuickBooks Direct Connect, on request. The Business Online Banking page lists QuickBooks Direct Connect among the services in every tier and says you can import your account information and transactions from Business Online Banking using Direct Connect at no extra cost (Banner Bank: Business Online Banking). The Direct Connect page says to sync your Banner accounts with QuickBooks, and that to set it up you contact Banner, by phone or by chat inside Online or Mobile Banking, to ask for Direct Connect to be enabled (Banner Bank: Business Online Banking and QuickBooks).
- An export button on the account screen. Banner's Business Online User Guide, dated 10-19-26 and linked from its Treasury Management resources page, says the Account Details page shows every transaction for an account, lets you sort by time and date, type, amount or check number, and has an icon to export your transactions into a different format. The Activity Center, which lists transactions started in Business Online or the mobile app, has its own export icon (Banner Bank: Business Online User Guide; Banner Bank: Treasury Management resources). The guide doesn't name the formats.
- Up to 18 months of eStatements. The Electronic Statements and Notices page says you can view up to 18 months of statements, notices and tax documents and print or download them (Banner Bank: Electronic Statements and Notices).
- Reporting files on the treasury tiers. The Financial Reporting page describes Previous Day Reporting, including balance and activity statements, checks paid and ACH and wire activity, and Current Day Reporting, and says to import the files into your accounting software for daily reconciliation (Banner Bank: Financial Reporting). The 2026 TMS fee changes page lists a BAI2 reporting by SFTP fee per account and other customized information reporting as quoted (Banner Bank: Treasury Management 2026 Fee Changes).
Before you start
- Find out which tier the client uses. Direct Connect is listed for all three tiers, while previous and current day reporting is listed as a TMS service (Banner Bank: Business Online Banking). Banner also links a separate Commercial Online Guide from its resources page (Banner Bank), so ask which one the client signs in to before you plan the months.
- Don't use the client's sign-in. The Online and Mobile Banking User Agreement says Banner strongly recommends you do not authorize any other person to use your password, that neither Banner nor its service providers will ever ask for your password or 6-digit secure access code and you should never give it to anyone else, and that authorizing another person gives that person full access to your accounts, including creating transactions, until the Login ID or password is changed. If you provide your password to anyone else, the bank will not be liable for any resulting damage (Banner Bank: Online and Mobile Banking User Agreement).
- Ask for a sub-user instead. The same agreement says the first authorized signer on a business account who enrolls in Business Online Banking is the Administrator, who can add or remove sub-users and set which features and accounts each can use; its examples of features that may be added or restricted include transfers and payment services, stop payments and access to statements (Banner Bank: User Agreement). Ask the client's Administrator for a sub-user limited to viewing and statements, with no transfers or payments, and to confirm in writing what that user can see. The agreement adds that Banner may contact any sub-user using the details and access rights set up for them.
- Accounts with more than one owner. The Secure Electronic Document Delivery Agreement says that once an account is enrolled in paperless documents, no paper statements, check images or certain notices are sent, including for an account with more than one owner; any owner can enroll or revoke, and a notice sent to the enrollment email counts as notice to every owner, whether or not they have online access (Banner Bank: Secure Electronic Document Delivery Agreement). If your contact isn't the owner who enrolled, they may not be getting the notices.
- Keep questions out of email. Banner says internet email is not secure and points to the Secure Message Center inside online banking for anything sensitive (Banner Bank: Security and Access). Have the client ask the questions in the section on what the documents don't say through a secure message, not by forwarding statements or sign-ins to you.
eStatements: 18 months online, then the retention schedule
The Electronic Statements and Notices page gives the enrollment path: sign in to Online or Mobile Banking, expand the Transactions menu, choose Statements, Notices and Taxes, follow the on-screen instructions and pick paper or paperless delivery for each account (Banner Bank: Electronic Statements and Notices). The user agreement says statements need a separate electronic agreement from the online banking service itself (Banner Bank: User Agreement). The delivery agreement says Banner emails you each time a document is ready and that it documents and archives all statements, cancelled checks and notices to ensure future availability within its retention schedule, without saying how long that is (Banner Bank: Secure Electronic Document Delivery Agreement). The habit to build: download each month's PDF when the email arrives and file it with the client's records. On the first sign-in, note the oldest statement listed before you promise the client a catch-up range, since anything past 18 months means asking the bank.
The statement is the record, not the download
The user agreement says financial information obtained through the service reflects the most recent information Banner has and may not be accurate or current, that balances can change at any time as items and fees post, that current balance and activity information is available the morning after the previous day's business, and that the order in which items appear online does not necessarily reflect the order in which they post (Banner Bank: User Agreement). So tie every export, report file or Direct Connect download back to the statement for the same period, and treat the statement's balances as the ones to match.
Where Banner's documents need checking
- "Automatically reconcile" next to "may not be accurate". The Direct Connect page lists "Automatically reconcile your accounts" and "Eliminate duplicate transaction entries" as benefits (Banner Bank: Direct Connect), while the user agreement says online information may not be accurate or current and posting order online can differ (Banner Bank: User Agreement). A synced feed still needs a statement tie-out each month.
- Up to 18 months, or approximately 18. The eStatements page says up to 18 months (Banner Bank); the Basic Business Checking product guide says approximately 18 months (Banner Bank: Basic Business Checking product guide). Either way, check the actual oldest month on screen.
- Paper copies at standard fees, but no copy fee listed. The delivery agreement says paper copies of electronic statements carry standard fees, and the user agreement says you can get documents of record in paper form by paying the applicable fees (Banner Bank: Secure Electronic Document Delivery Agreement; Banner Bank: User Agreement). Neither the business Schedule of Fees effective February 1, 2024 nor the fee list in the Business Deposit Account Agreement (Rev. 05/2025) has a line for a statement copy (Banner Bank: Schedule of Fees; Banner Bank: Business Deposit Account Agreement). Ask what a copy costs before ordering one.
- Listed in every tier, but enabled by request. Direct Connect appears in the service list for all three tiers (Banner Bank), yet the Direct Connect page says the client has to contact Banner to have it enabled (Banner Bank). Don't assume it's already on.
- Which guide fits which tier. The Business Online User Guide puts user management under a Commercial Services heading (Banner Bank: Business Online User Guide), while the Business Online Banking page lists single and multi-user management for the Basic tier (Banner Bank). Confirm with the client what their screens show.
- CD-ROM statements are going away. The 2026 TMS fee changes page says CD-ROM statements are being eliminated along with related fees (Banner Bank: Treasury Management 2026 Fee Changes). If the client relied on CDs for older months, find the ones they kept.
What Banner's documents don't say
- The download file type. The pages name QuickBooks Direct Connect but no QBO, QFX, OFX, CSV or Web Connect file, and the user guide's export icon saves to "a different format" without naming one (Banner Bank: Business Online User Guide). The Financial Reporting page says to import its files but doesn't name their format (Banner Bank: Financial Reporting).
- How far back history goes. Nothing we read says how many months of transactions Account Details shows or exports, or how far back Direct Connect reaches on the first sync.
- Export columns. We didn't find the columns, sign convention or date format of any export or report file.
- The retention schedule. The delivery agreement refers to a retention schedule but doesn't publish it.
- Xero. The Direct Connect page says Biller Genie integrates with QuickBooks, Xero and other accounting software, but for invoicing and payment collection (Banner Bank). We didn't find a Banner page about a Xero bank feed; we haven't confirmed one either way.
Older statements and what they cost
Banner's business Schedule of Fees, effective February 1, 2024, lists Account Reconciliation at $25.00 per hour with a $10.00 minimum, and paper statements at $3.00 monthly, or $6.00 monthly with check images (Banner Bank: Schedule of Fees). The delivery agreement says you can ask for a paper copy of any statement or notice provided electronically by secure message, chat in online banking, at a branch or by mail (Banner Bank: Secure Electronic Document Delivery Agreement). The Business Deposit Account Agreement says canceled checks Banner keeps are destroyed after a reasonable time period or as required by law, and that a check copy may be subject to a fee (Banner Bank: Business Deposit Account Agreement). For any month older than what's on screen, have the client ask Banner what a copy costs and how long it takes before ordering.
Clauses worth telling the client about
The Business Deposit Account Agreement says you must review statements with reasonable care and report discrepancies with reasonable promptness, and that reasonable promptness will not exist if you don't notify Banner within 30 days after it mails or otherwise makes the statement available; for a business account, Banner says it won't be liable for an unauthorized signature or alteration reported after 60 days (Banner Bank: Business Deposit Account Agreement). The user agreement tells you to examine your statement promptly upon receipt and notify the bank immediately if records disagree, says three unsuccessful password attempts suspend access, gives at least 30 days' notice of adverse changes unless an immediate change is needed for security, and says Banner may cancel or suspend access if the accounts aren't accessed through the service for three months (Banner Bank: User Agreement). For a catch-up on a quiet account, ask the client to sign in before you plan anything. Banner's business fraud page tells businesses to review and reconcile accounts in online banking in a timely manner and says dual control can be enforced in Business Online Banking (Banner Bank: Business Fraud). A monthly tie-out supports that; it doesn't replace it.
Which route for which months
- Going forward: Direct Connect, once the client has asked Banner to enable it and connected it using Intuit's steps, starting after the last month you've imported.
- Recent months: the Account Details export, in whatever format the screen offers, one statement period at a time, checked against the statement.
- Treasury tiers: previous day reporting files, if the client has the service, checked against the statement; ask Banner which format they come in.
- Every month still online, Xero, or an account about to close: the PDF eStatements, downloaded and saved now, since only about 18 months stay on screen.
- Anything older or never on eStatements: the client's paper statements or CDs, or copies from the bank, priced first.
QuickBooks Online
- Intuit's manual upload takes a PDF or image statement in English, or a QBO, QFX or CSV file. A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026). Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account (Intuit). If Direct Connect already brought in some of a month, upload only the dates it missed, or see duplicate transactions after a bank upload.
- Banner doesn't document its export columns, so open any CSV first and cut it down to Date, Description and Amount (or Credit and Debit) before uploading; see QuickBooks CSV date format and column errors.
- To connect an account, Intuit's steps are in Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online. Let the client sign in for that step.
- For QuickBooks Desktop, Intuit says you can't download the same transactions into a company file more than once, and once you delete downloaded transactions you can't download them again (Intuit: download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop, updated Aug 5, 2026), and describes Web Connect as a .QBO file you download from your bank and import (Intuit: set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop). Banner doesn't say whether its export offers a .QBO file, so check the file extension before you try it in Desktop; for months with only a PDF, see can QuickBooks Desktop import a PDF bank statement. Back up the company file before you import anything.
Xero
- Banner Bank is on Xero's US list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 27 Oct 2026), so high-quality results are likely, but Xero says it validates selected statement types and recommends OFX over PDF when your bank offers it. Banner's documents don't name an OFX download. Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Import each account's eStatements separately and check every imported month against the statement.
- If you build a CSV instead, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format). Banner doesn't document its export columns, so open the file and map them yourself.
- Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.
More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.
Tie out each month before you import
- Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Banner statement, to the cent.
- Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
- Sum the file's or feed's lines for the statement period and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a missing transaction type, an export date range off by a day, or an item that showed online in a different order or on a different day than it posted.
- Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF, using the check images for any check that doesn't match.
The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits
For Banner, Direct Connect has to be requested and no download file type is named, the agreement says online information may not be accurate or current, and only about 18 months of eStatements stay on screen, so PDF statements, downloaded and saved while they're online, are the record for older months, Xero and an account about to close. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.
Skip the manual work
We turn statement PDFs into QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet. $15 per statement-month, $149 for a 12-month catch-up. Prefer to check it yourself? Our tie-out checker runs in your browser. See how pros do catch-up.
