Origin Bank statement to QuickBooks or Xero: Quicken and QuickBooks export, eStatements and tie-out

Origin Bank's sign-up page offers two online platforms for business clients: its online platform for personal and small business banking, which you enroll in online and which Origin's agreements call Origin Bank Online, and a Treasury Management platform, where it says to contact the bank directly to enroll (Origin Bank: online banking sign-up; Origin Bank: Treasury Management Online Banking). Here's what Origin's written pages, its fee schedule and its agreements say, and don't, about getting a business account's history into QuickBooks or Xero. This guide covers Origin Bank Online and Treasury Management Online Banking at origin.bank only.

What Origin Bank gives you

  • Quicken and QuickBooks export. Origin's Electronic Fund Transfer Disclosure lists, among the services in Origin Bank Online, account history, account reports, eStatements and "export features (Quicken and Quickbooks)" (Origin Bank: Disclosures and Agreements). Its Quicken and QuickBooks page says it's easy to download Origin Bank account transactions into Quicken and QuickBooks and, for first-time connections, links to Intuit's own help articles for QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online rather than giving its own steps (Origin Bank: Quicken and QuickBooks).
  • Download rights in the agreement. The Online Service Agreement lists receiving and downloading balance and transaction information as one of the online services (section 5), and says you may receive, download, and store or print the information routinely set forth in the account's statement, debits and credits, item numbers and the daily balance (section 8) (Origin Bank: Online Service Agreement and Disclosure Statement).
  • Reports by date range. Origin's Business FAQs say you can pull reports in online banking by date range, check number, amount or transfer type (Origin Bank: Business FAQs).
  • Statements and check images on the treasury platform. Treasury Management Online Banking lists viewing account activity, eStatements and check images (Origin Bank: Treasury Management Online Banking). The Treasury Management page describes a Web Statement Portal for business statements and all electronic images of your checks, and the Information Management page lists web-based reporting with current day, previous day and historical reporting, full account reconciliation, and a CD Image Archive: a CD-ROM each month with your business statements and check images. The business mobile app lists 24/7 access to account balances, statements and history (Origin Bank: Business Mobile Banking).

Before you start

  • Find out which platform the client uses. The Quicken and QuickBooks export is listed for Origin Bank Online (Origin Bank: Electronic Fund Transfer Disclosure); the treasury pages list statements, images and reporting, but we didn't find an export format named for them. Ask which one the client signs in to before you plan the months.
  • Don't use the client's sign-in. The Online Service Agreement calls the sign-in code a PIN and says no bank employee should ask you for it, nor should you provide it to anyone unless you intend to allow that person access to your accounts; anyone you authorize to use it can view information and start transactions on any of the accounts to the same extent as you, including accounts that person doesn't otherwise have access to, and use of the PIN by that person counts the same as your written signature. Origin calls sharing it "strongly discouraged" and done at your sole risk (section 3) (Origin Bank: Online Service Agreement). Transfers by someone you gave the PIN to don't count as unauthorized unless you've told Origin that person is no longer authorized and it has had a reasonable opportunity to act (section 20). The pages we read don't describe adding a separate user for a bookkeeper, so ask the client to ask Origin for one, limited to viewing and downloading, and to confirm in writing what that user can see.
  • Joint accounts. Origin's E-Sign disclosure says that on an account owned jointly by two or more individuals or entities, electronic communications are accessible only by the primary account holder, who is responsible for sharing them (Origin Bank: E-Sign Disclosure and Consent Agreement). If your contact isn't the primary holder, they may not see the eStatements.
  • Keep questions out of email. Origin's Corporate Account Takeover page says not to trust email to send or receive sensitive information (Origin Bank: Corporate Account Takeover). Have the client ask the questions in the section on what the documents don't say through Origin directly, not by forwarding statements or sign-ins to you.

eStatements: how to turn them on, not how long they stay

Origin's Business FAQs give the enrollment path as written: "Choose eStatements, Enter, and then agree to the disclosure for eStatements." (Origin Bank: Business FAQs). The E-Sign disclosure adds that consenting to electronic communications doesn't by itself enroll you in electronic statements; you must complete the online document selection and delivery process. Once you consent, Origin may stop sending paper, may deliver a communication by email, by posting it on its website with an email notice, or by asking you to download a PDF, and it tells you to print or download and keep copies of anything important (Origin Bank: E-Sign Disclosure). The habit to build: download each month's PDF when the notice arrives and file it with the client's records. Nothing we read says how many months stay online, so on the first sign-in, note the oldest statement listed before you promise the client a catch-up range.

The statement is the record, not the download

The Online Service Agreement says account information in Origin Bank Online is current as of the end of the preceding business day, is "raw data" furnished through Origin's service provider, is subject to further adjustment and correction, and that Origin can't assure its accuracy or completeness. It adds that you will still receive your usual periodic statement, and that adjustments may have been made in preparing it (section 8) (Origin Bank: Online Service Agreement). So tie every export or feed back to the statement for the same period, and treat the statement's balances as the ones to match.

Where Origin's documents need checking

  • 60 days or 30 days in one paragraph. Section 20 of the Online Service Agreement says that if you don't report unauthorized transfers on your statement within sixty (60) calendar days after the statement was mailed or an email told you it was available, you can't assert a claim against the bank, then calls this "This thirty (30) day limitation" in the next sentence (Origin Bank: Online Service Agreement). Separately, section 26 of the Deposit Account Agreement says you must report discrepancies within 30 days after Origin mails or otherwise makes the statement available, or have no claim, with electronic transfers handled under its Disclosures (Origin Bank: Deposit Account Agreement). The Electronic Fund Transfer Disclosure is for accounts held mainly for personal, family or household purposes, and says that if you are a business, your dispute time frame may be limited to the banking day following the settlement date of the entry (Origin Bank: Electronic Fund Transfer Disclosure). For a business account, plan on the shortest of these. A catch-up done months later is past all of them, so flag anything odd to the client the day you find it.
  • Which agreement covers the treasury platform. The Online Service Agreement describes "Origin Bank Online" and refers to an enrollment form it calls the Application (Origin Bank), while treasury access is set up through a representative (Origin Bank). We didn't find a separate treasury management agreement on the site, so ask which terms apply to a treasury client.
  • Monthly CD, or a discontinued fee. The Information Management page offers a CD-ROM each month with business statements and check images (Origin Bank: Information Management), while the Fee Schedule effective 1/1/2025 lists an "Annual Statements on CD Fee" as discontinued (Origin Bank: Fee Schedule). It doesn't say whether the CD service itself continues, so ask before you count on one for older months.
  • An older-looking agreement. The Online Service Agreement isn't dated and still describes 128-bit SSL (Origin Bank). Check with the client that it's the version they accepted.

What Origin's documents don't say

  • The QuickBooks file type. The pages name Quicken and QuickBooks as destinations but no QBO, QFX, OFX, CSV or Web Connect file, and give no download steps of their own. The Quicken and QuickBooks page mentions Direct Connect and says to contact Origin's Customer Care if you are asked to enter bank-provided credentials (Origin Bank: Quicken and QuickBooks), but doesn't say what Direct Connect costs or which accounts it covers.
  • How far back history goes. Nothing we read says how many months of transactions Origin Bank Online shows or exports, or how far back treasury historical reporting reaches.
  • Report and export columns. We didn't find the columns, sign convention or date format of any report or export.
  • How long eStatements stay online. No retention period is published for eStatements or the Web Statement Portal.
  • Users and roles. The pages don't describe adding users or limiting what a user can see on either platform. The Corporate Account Takeover page recommends dual control for ACH and wire transactions (Origin Bank), but not how it's set up.
  • Xero. We didn't find an Origin page about a Xero bank feed; we haven't confirmed one either way.

Older statements and what they cost

Origin's Fee Schedule, effective 1/1/2025, lists Account Research at $30.00 per hour with a one hour minimum, and lists as discontinued the Account Research Per Copy Fee, the Statement Reconciliation Fee, the Off-Cycle Statement Fee and the Annual Statements on CD Fee (Origin Bank: Fee Schedule). The E-Sign disclosure says you can get a paper copy of an electronic communication by printing it yourself or by asking Origin to mail one, if you ask in a timely manner, and that Origin reserves the right to charge a reasonable service charge for paper copies of anything already provided electronically (Origin Bank: E-Sign Disclosure). The fee schedule has no separate line for that. The Deposit Account Agreement says canceled checks kept by Origin are destroyed after a reasonable time period or as required by law (Origin Bank: Deposit Account Agreement). For any month you can't download, have the client ask Origin what a copy costs and how long it takes before ordering.

Clauses worth telling the client about

The Online Service Agreement says the client agrees to promptly examine each statement and report discrepancies (section 16), and that, where no law specifically governs an amendment, Origin can amend the agreement by mailing, emailing or posting it at least 10 calendar days before it takes effect, and can change terms without prior notice in some cases, including for security reasons (section 25) (Origin Bank: Online Service Agreement). Origin's Corporate Account Takeover page tells businesses to monitor and reconcile accounts online daily, at a minimum reviewing pending or recently sent ACH files and wire transfers, and to look over statements carefully for strange activity, since small, unfamiliar transactions could be a sign that someone has access (Origin Bank: Corporate Account Takeover). A monthly tie-out supports that; it doesn't replace it.

Which route for which months

  • Going forward: whatever connection the client already has or QuickBooks offers, set up by the client using Intuit's steps, starting after the last month you've imported.
  • Recent months on Origin Bank Online: the Quicken or QuickBooks export, in whatever format the screen offers, one statement period at a time, checked against the statement.
  • Recent months on Treasury Management Online Banking: whatever the reporting screen exports, checked against the statement; ask Origin which formats it offers.
  • Every month still online, Xero, or an account about to close: the PDF eStatements, downloaded and saved now, since no retention period is published.
  • Anything older or never on eStatements: the client's paper statements, or copies from the bank, priced first.

QuickBooks Online

Xero

  • Origin Bank is on Xero's US list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 27 Oct 2026), so high-quality results are likely, but Xero says it validates selected statement types and recommends OFX over PDF when your bank offers it. Origin's documents don't name an OFX download. Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Import each account's eStatements separately and check every imported month against the statement.
  • If you build a CSV instead, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format). Origin doesn't document its export columns, so open the file and map them yourself.
  • Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.

More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.

Tie out each month before you import

  1. Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Origin statement, to the cent.
  2. Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
  3. Sum the file's or feed's lines for the statement period and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a missing transaction type, an export date range off by a day, or an adjustment made when the statement was prepared.
  4. Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF, using the check images for any check that doesn't match.

The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits

For Origin, the export to Quicken and QuickBooks is listed but no file type is named, the agreement calls downloaded data "raw data" and points back to the periodic statement, and nothing we read says how long eStatements stay online, so PDF statements, downloaded and saved while they're online, are the record for older months, Xero and an account about to close. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.

Skip the manual work

We turn statement PDFs into QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet. $15 per statement-month, $149 for a 12-month catch-up. Prefer to check it yourself? Our tie-out checker runs in your browser. See how pros do catch-up.
