Axos Bank statement to QuickBooks or Xero: QBO, OFX and CSV downloads, PDF statements and tie-out

Axos Bank is a branchless, FDIC-insured online bank. It asks business customers to agree to electronic communications and says it doesn't send paper communications, so statements live online (Axos: Business Banking FAQs). Here's what Axos gives you to get a business account's history into QuickBooks or Xero.

What Axos gives you

  • Statements (PDF). Business customers are enrolled in e-Docs automatically when they register for online banking. Log in online or in the mobile app and go to Statements and Documents (Axos: Business Banking FAQs). Axos's Online Access Agreement says you can view, save or print PDF versions of account documents (Axos: Online Access Agreement).
  • Transaction downloads in four formats. Axos offers CSV, QBO (QuickBooks), QFX (Quicken Web Connect) and OFX files. Online: Accounts tab → Transactions tab → Download Transactions (top right) → choose the account(s), the Transaction Period and the File Format. In the app: open the account, scroll to recent transactions → View All → the three-dot menu → Download Transactions (Axos: Business Banking FAQs).
  • Accounting connections. Axos lists QuickBooks (Desktop and Online) and Quicken (desktop) as its integrations. In the software's bank setup, search "Axos"; Axos says four entries appear (Axos Bank Business DC, Axos Bank Business WC, Axos Bank DC, Axos Bank WC) and tells you to pick Axos Bank DC (Direct Connect) or Axos Bank WC (Web Connect) (Axos: Business Banking FAQs; Axos: business account guide). Its QuickBooks Online instructions say to choose Axos Bank from the Link account search and give a one-time consent before signing in (Axos: QuickBooks Online conversion instructions).

Things to know before you start

  • Bookkeeper logins. Axos says it is still working on adding non-signer users (bookkeeper, accountant) in its newer digital banking platforms and asks you to contact a business banking representative (Axos: Business Banking FAQs). Expect the client to download the statements and files for you.
  • Platform change. Axos's FAQs describe its newer online banking platform and say the legacy platform is being retired, with some view-only and non-signer users possibly losing access (Axos: Business Banking FAQs). If the client's screens don't match the menus above, they may still be on the old platform.
  • Connection fees. The Online Access Agreement says service fees may apply when you connect Quicken or QuickBooks Desktop software (it calls these Financial Management Software), and that the monthly fee isn't prorated if you cancel mid-cycle (Axos: Online Access Agreement). Check Axos's current fee schedule before setting up Direct Connect.
  • Statement history. Axos says statements are available online for up to seven years depending on the account type, some types for less; there may be a gap if the account wasn't on online-only delivery from opening; and there can be a delay of up to several weeks after enrollment before statements appear (Axos: Online Access Agreement).
  • Closing the account. The same agreement says that if all the client's eligible accounts are closed, Axos may suspend or end online access without notice (Axos: Online Access Agreement). Download every statement and transaction file the books need before the account closes.

What Axos's help pages don't say

  • How far back Download Transactions reaches. The pages describe choosing a Transaction Period but not the earliest date available. For months the download can't reach, the PDF statement is what you have.
  • The CSV layout. Axos doesn't list the CSV's columns, date format or sign convention, or say whether it has a running balance. Open it before importing.
  • Xero. Axos's integration list names only QuickBooks and Quicken (Axos). We didn't find an Axos page about a Xero bank feed. Search for Axos in Xero's bank feed setup; we haven't confirmed one either way.
  • Which entry business accounts should use. Axos lists Business DC and Business WC entries but tells you to pick Axos Bank DC or WC. If the one you pick doesn't show the business account, try the other pair or ask Axos.

Which route for which months

  • Recent months the download covers: a QBO file for QuickBooks, or OFX or CSV for Xero. Xero recommends OFX over PDF when a bank offers it (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement).
  • Older months, or months the download can't reach: the PDF statements.
  • Every month: tie the file out to the statement before you import (below).
  • Going forward: a QuickBooks connection, or a regular download if you're on Xero.

QuickBooks Online

  • Axos's QuickBooks Online Web Connect steps: download a .qbo or .qfx file from Axos, then in QuickBooks Online use File Upload on the Banking page, pick the existing QuickBooks account from the drop-down (don't choose "+Add New" unless you mean to create one), and review the For Review tab (Axos: QuickBooks Online conversion instructions).
  • Intuit's manual upload takes a PDF or image statement in English, or a QBO, QFX or CSV file. A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026). Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account (Intuit).
  • Intuit says accountants can't connect a bank account for their clients (Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts, updated Oct 1, 2026), so the client sets up the Axos connection.

QuickBooks Desktop

Xero

  • Axos Bank is on Xero's list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 26 Oct 2026). Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Check every imported month against the statement anyway.
  • For a CSV, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format). Axos doesn't document its CSV layout, so check columns and signs first.
  • Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.

More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.

Tie out each month before you import

  1. Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Axos statement, to the cent.
  2. Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
  3. Sum the downloaded file's rows for the statement period and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a date range off by a day, an overlap with an earlier download, or a sign flipped in the CSV.
  4. Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF.

The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits

For Axos, use the QBO, OFX or CSV download for the months it covers; the PDF route matters for older months, a closed account, or when you need each month checked against the statement. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.

Skip the manual work

We turn statement PDFs into QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet. $15 per statement-month, $149 for a 12-month catch-up. Prefer to check it yourself? Our tie-out checker runs in your browser. See how pros do catch-up.
