Huntington statement to QuickBooks or Xero: downloads, Direct Connect, statements and tie-out
The Huntington National Bank serves businesses through two platforms: Huntington Online Banking, which small business profiles use, and Business Online, its treasury platform. They differ on downloads, the QuickBooks connection and how far back history goes, so the first question is which one your client signs in to. Here's what Huntington documents, and what it doesn't, for getting a business account's history into QuickBooks or Xero.
What Huntington gives you
- Transaction downloads in Online Banking. Huntington's digital banking FAQ says that for business accounts, The Hub's Transactions tool has a download link, and transactions can be downloaded into Quicken, QuickBooks and CSV formats (Huntington: Digital Banking Tools FAQ, no date). A Huntington transition page adds Excel: it says you can export account information from Online Banking to Quicken, QuickBooks, or a .CSV or Excel file (Huntington: Get ready for Huntington Online Banking, 2026).
- Direct Connect, through Online Banking only. Huntington's Direct Connect sheet says Direct Connect for QuickBooks or Quicken is available through Huntington Online Banking (PC Banking), needs manual setup, and is not available through Business Online. Each business entity must have its own Online Banking profile, and it suggests turning on Profile → Financial Management Tools (Huntington: Using QuickBooks or Quicken with Huntington (Direct Connect), 2026). The PC Banking page says there's no monthly cost for consumer, business or commercial accounts (Huntington: PC Banking, no date).
- Business Online exports and history. Huntington's small business reporting page compares two Business Online packages. Standard: 13 months of balance and transaction history, 24 months of statement history, export to CSV, QuickBooks and Quicken. Comprehensive: 24 months of transaction history, 24 months of statement history, more export formats, and a long-term seven-year archive (Huntington: Small Business Information and Reporting, no date).
- Two years of online statements. Huntington's statement article says statements are available online for 24 months in the statements tab of Online Banking, that older statement records mean contacting Huntington directly, and recommends printing statements out (Huntington: What is a bank statement?, last updated September 2026).
Things to know before you start
- Only the primary administrator can set up Direct Connect. The Direct Connect sheet says only the primary online banking administrator can set it up with QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken Desktop; other team members work in QuickBooks under its own user permissions while the administrator keeps control of the bank connection (Huntington). If you're the bookkeeper, the client's administrator has to make the connection. Intuit says accountants can't connect a bank account for their clients (Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts, updated Oct 1, 2026).
- Bookkeeper access in Online Banking. Huntington's transition page says it supports one admin per small business profile, that advanced granular permissions are no longer available, and that users added through access sharing don't get mobile deposit. If business accounts are linked to the owner's personal profile instead, access sharing isn't available for them (Huntington). Ask your client to add you through access sharing on a dedicated business profile; don't share their login.
- Bookkeeper access in Business Online. Both Business Online packages include user delegated access, and Huntington says dual control can apply to user setup and entitlements (Huntington). The pages we read don't list what a view-only or reporting user can download.
- Download older months before history runs out. On Business Online Standard, transaction history stops at 13 months while statements go back 24 (Huntington). For months 14 to 24, plan on the statements, not a download.
- After a bank merger. For clients moved over from Cadence Bank in June 2026, the Direct Connect sheet told them to download any transactions they wanted to keep before the switch, because some transaction history might no longer be available afterwards (Huntington). For a catch-up that crosses a conversion date, expect to rebuild those months from statements.
Where Huntington's pages need checking
- Two lists for the same package. The small business reporting page lists Business Online Standard exports as CSV, QuickBooks and Quicken (Huntington). The commercial online services page lists Standard as CSV, QuickBooks, Quicken, BAI2 and Excel, and gives Comprehensive a different list from the small business page (Huntington: Commercial Online Banking Services, no date). Check the export menu your client actually sees.
- Seven years or 24 months. Both pages list a seven-year archive for Comprehensive, while statement history is 24 months on both packages (Huntington; Huntington). The small business page describes the archive as "Five archive reports". Neither says whether the archive includes statements. Don't promise a client more than 24 months of statements online.
- Dated PC Banking guides. The PC Banking page's getting-started guides list QuickBooks 2014 to 2016 and Quicken 2013 to 2016 (Huntington), releases that are now about ten years old. Use the 2026 Direct Connect sheet (Huntington) for current setup.
- Which QuickBooks file. The FAQ says "QuickBooks" with no file type (Huntington). Intuit says QuickBooks Desktop Web Connect only works with .qbo files, and QFX and QIF Quicken files won't work (Intuit: download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop, updated Aug 5, 2026). Check what the download produces before you plan around it.
What Huntington's pages don't say
- Download date range in Online Banking. The FAQ names formats but not how far back a business download reaches. Intuit says some banks give only what's available on the first download, which may be 30, 60, 90 days or more (Intuit).
- QuickBooks Online. The Direct Connect sheet links QuickBooks Online transition instructions, but the pages we read don't describe a QuickBooks Online connection. In QuickBooks Online, search for Huntington in the bank list (Intuit); we haven't confirmed a connection either way.
- Xero. Huntington's pages mention only Quicken, QuickBooks, CSV and Excel. We didn't find a page about a Xero bank feed; we haven't confirmed one either way.
- Closed accounts. Not stated. Download every statement the books need before a client closes or switches accounts.
- The statement file format. No page we read says Online Banking statements are PDFs; check you get a digital PDF, not a printout or a scan.
Which route for which months
- Going forward on QuickBooks Desktop or Quicken: Direct Connect through Online Banking, set up by the client's primary administrator.
- Recent months: the Online Banking or Business Online transaction download, in date ranges that don't overlap anything already imported.
- Older months, Xero, or an account about to close: the online statements, downloaded while they're still within the 24 months.
- Every month: tie the imported lines out to the statement before you reconcile (below).
QuickBooks Online
- Intuit's manual upload takes a PDF or image statement in English, or a QBO, QFX or CSV file. A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026). Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account (Intuit). If a connection already brought in some of a month, see duplicate transactions after a bank upload.
- QuickBooks Desktop connects through Bank Feeds, either Direct Connect or a Web Connect (.qbo) file (Intuit: set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop, updated Aug 5, 2026). Intuit says you can't download the same transactions into a company file more than once, and once you delete downloaded transactions you can't download them again (Intuit). Back up the company file first. For months with only a PDF, see can QuickBooks Desktop import a PDF bank statement.
Xero
- Huntington National Bank is on Xero's US list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 26 Oct 2026), so high-quality results are likely, but Xero says it validates selected statement types and recommends OFX over PDF when your bank offers it. Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Check every imported month against the statement.
- If you build a CSV instead, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format).
- Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.
More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.
Tie out each month before you import
- Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Huntington statement, to the cent.
- Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
- Sum the file's or feed's lines for the statement period and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a missing transaction type, an overlapping download, or a date range off by a day.
- Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF.
The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits
For Huntington, downloads and Direct Connect cover recent history, and Business Online Standard keeps only 13 months of transactions; the statements are the record for older months, Xero, or an account about to close, and for any month you want tied to the bank's statement balances. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.
