Old National Bank statement to QuickBooks or Xero: business exports, eStatements and tie-out
Old National Bank documents two business online banking platforms separately: Small Business Digital Banking, and ONPointe Essentials, which Old National describes as an online banking toolbox for small to mid-sized businesses. Old National publishes PDF user guides and a QuickBooks quick reference guide, but some are from 2022 and they don't all agree. Here's what its documents say, and don't, about getting a business account's history into QuickBooks or Xero. This guide covers those two platforms at oldnational.com only, not ONPointe Treasury. Ask the client which one they sign in to, because the menus, history limits and QuickBooks steps differ.
What Old National gives you
- Small Business Digital Banking exports. Old National's My Accounts guide says an account's details screen lets you change the date range, search, and export transactions as CSV (for a spreadsheet), OFX (accepted for importing to Quicken and QuickBooks), QFX (Web Connect for Quicken) or QBO (Web Connect for QuickBooks) (Old National: Small Business My Accounts guide, undated). The Basic Services guide says the Details screen provides transaction history and export options, and lists Online Statements and "Connectivity for Quicken and Quickbooks" under Additional Services, with access depending on the business segment and the user's entitlements (Old National: Small Business Basic Services guide, undated).
- A Multi-Account Report. The Multi-Account Report guide says users with the right permission can pull checking and savings history for up to 10 accounts in one report, export it, and download it from the Generated Reports tab, where reports stay for 10 days (Old National: Small Business Multi-Account Report guide, undated).
- ONPointe Essentials exports. Old National's QuickBooks quick reference guide for ONPointe Essentials says to click Accounts, click History in Recent Transactions, set Transaction Date From and To, click Search, then choose Actions, Export QuickBooks (Old National: Using QuickBooks with ONPointe Essentials, revised 08/12/22). It doesn't name the file extension.
- ONPointe Essentials statements. The Statements and Notices guide says you find Statements and Notices on the left-hand menu in ONPointe Essentials, can view, print and download statements, can select up to 25 at once to download as a ZIP file, and can reach up to 7 years of eStatements, analysis eStatements and returned check notices (Old National: Statements and Notices guide, updated July 2026). The Getting Started guide lists 13 months of transaction and image history and 7 years of statement history (Old National: ONPointe Essentials Getting Started guide, updated September 2026).
- QuickBooks connections. The QuickBooks guide covers Direct Connect and Web Connect for QuickBooks Pro and Enterprise (only the three most recent releases supported), and Web Connect Express and Web Connect for QuickBooks Online (Old National). The Small Business Digital Banking Services Agreement describes Direct Connect for Quicken or QuickBooks, which you register for in online banking with a separate connectivity password (Old National: Small Business Digital Banking Services Agreement, Rev. 8/26).
Before you start
- Bookkeeper access on Small Business Digital Banking. Old National's Add a Business User guide says Primary and Secondary Admins add users under Manage Users, that unlimited users are allowed, and that the "View Transaction Details/History" permission lets a user see, filter, search and export an account's transactions. For Online Statements, at least one account needs that permission (Old National: Add a Business User guide, undated). The agreement says the Primary Administrator sets up Users and their access (Old National). Ask the client's admin to add you as your own user. Intuit says accountants can't connect a bank account for their clients (Intuit: connect bank and credit card accounts, updated Oct 1, 2026).
- Bookkeeper access on ONPointe Essentials. The Administrator guide says a company administrator adds a user in Admin Manager and toggles on Statements for each account the user should see (Old National: ONPointe Essentials Administrator guide, June 2022). The QuickBooks guide says Direct Connect has to be entitled to a user by an administrator, and that a user's access in QuickBooks follows their ONPointe Essentials access to accounts and transfers (Old National).
- Don't use the client's login. The Small Business agreement recommends against shared credentials and says that if you disclose your credentials to another person or entity, including a data aggregation service, you're responsible for what they do (Old National). The ONPointe Essentials Services Agreement says each user's login PIN should be unique and not shared (Old National: ONPointe Essentials Services Agreement, June 2022).
- Passwords expire. The QuickBooks guide says the ONPointe Essentials password expires every 45 days, so a QuickBooks Online connection needs the password reset on the ONPointe site when it lapses (Old National). If a client's feed stops, check that first.
- Statements are the official record. Both agreements say the online services don't replace your account statements, which are the official record of your accounts (Old National; Old National). Download every statement the books need before a client closes or moves an account.
Where Old National's documents need checking
- Seven years of statements, or 24 months? The 2026 Statements and Notices and Getting Started guides say 7 years of statement history in ONPointe Essentials (Old National; Old National). Old National's Availability and Retention quick reference guide lists electronic statements as retained for 24 months, for both ONPointe Treasury and ONPointe Essentials (Old National: Availability and Retention quick reference guide, footer code 0722). Save each month's PDF when it arrives rather than counting on 7 years.
- How far back do Small Business exports go? The My Accounts guide lets you change the date range but doesn't state a limit (Old National). The Multi-Account Report guide says its history goes back 90 days, with a maximum range of 30 days per report (Old National). Check the earliest date an export actually returns before you plan a catch-up around it.
- CSV or Excel? The Multi-Account Report guide says to export the report details into CSV format, and on the same page lists the export formats as "Detailed Excel" and "Transactions only Excel" (Old National). Check the extension of the file you get. QuickBooks Online's upload takes CSV, not Excel workbooks (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026).
- A 2022 QuickBooks guide. The ONPointe Essentials QuickBooks guide is dated August 2022 and its own step references don't line up: its Step 2 says to use the user ID created "in Step 2 earlier in this guide" (the user ID is created in Step 1), then says to proceed to "Step 4" when the next step is Step 3 (Old National). Follow Intuit's current steps for the QuickBooks side.
- Logging in from QuickBooks Online. The QuickBooks guide says Web Connect Express asks for your ONPointe Essentials user credentials (Old National), while the ONPointe agreement says login PINs shouldn't be shared (Old National). The documents don't say how the two fit together; have the client enter their own sign-in, or use your own user.
What Old National's documents don't say
- Small Business eStatement history. The business guides and agreement we read don't say how many months of eStatements Small Business Digital Banking keeps. Old National's general eStatements FAQ, which isn't business-specific, says up to 18 months may be available right after enrollment (Old National: eStatements FAQ, no date).
- Fees. We didn't find a business fee for exports, Direct Connect or Web Connect in what we read. The Small Business agreement says fees for a service, if any, are disclosed when you enroll or access it (Old National). We didn't read a fee schedule or the Deposit Account Agreement.
- Statements older than the online window. The documents don't say how to get them or what a copy costs.
- What the export contains. The Multi-Account Report guide lists the "Transactions only" columns as account number, date, description, amount, transaction type, check number and memo (Old National). The other guides don't describe the columns in a CSV, QBO or OFX export, or whether a running balance is included.
- Xero. We didn't find an Old National page about a Xero bank feed; we haven't confirmed one either way.
Which route for which months
- Going forward on QuickBooks Online: whatever connection QuickBooks offers for Old National in the client's file, set up by the client, or QBO or OFX uploads in date ranges that don't overlap anything already imported.
- Going forward on QuickBooks Desktop: Web Connect QBO files, or Direct Connect if the client has it set up.
- Recent months: exports from the account details screen or ONPointe's transaction history, once you've confirmed the file type and the earliest date they return (13 months on ONPointe Essentials, per its guides).
- Older months, Xero, or an account about to close: the PDF eStatements, downloaded and saved while they're online.
- Every month: tie the imported lines out to the statement before you reconcile (below).
QuickBooks Online
- Intuit's manual upload takes a PDF or image statement in English, or a QBO, QFX or CSV file. A list file must be 350 KB or less, with 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), up to 1,000 lines per upload (Intuit: manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online, updated Aug 24, 2026). Intuit says the file should start at least one day before your oldest QuickBooks transaction in that account (Intuit). Old National's guide warns that if you choose a start date for an automated connection that you've already loaded manually, you'll get duplicate transactions, and says to disconnect any existing feed for the account first (Old National). If a connection already brought in some of a month, see duplicate transactions after a bank upload.
- For QuickBooks Desktop, Old National's guide says to check the account isn't already linked to another feed before you connect (Old National). Intuit says you can't download the same transactions into a QuickBooks Desktop company file more than once, and once you delete downloaded transactions you can't download them again (Intuit: download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop, updated Aug 5, 2026), and describes Web Connect as a .QBO file you download from your bank and import (Intuit: set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop). Back up the company file before you change its connection or import a file. For months with only a PDF, see can QuickBooks Desktop import a PDF bank statement.
Xero
- Old National Bank is on Xero's US list of banks with validated PDF extraction (checked 27 Oct 2026), so high-quality results are likely, but Xero says it validates selected statement types and recommends OFX over PDF when your bank offers it. Old National's Small Business My Accounts guide lists OFX as an export format (Old National); the ONPointe Essentials guides we read don't. Xero's PDF import is for US and Canada organizations, not the Xero Ledger plan; files must be English, 35 MB or less, up to 100 pages, at least 200 DPI, not password protected, one file per bank account (Xero Central: import a PDF bank statement). Check every imported month against the statement.
- If you build a CSV instead, Xero needs at least Date and Amount, with money in positive and money out negative in one column, and no opening or closing balance columns (Xero Central: import a bank statement in CSV format).
- Xero treats lines matching ones already in Xero as duplicates and won't import them (Xero Central), but don't rely on that; import only the months the account doesn't already have.
More detail: how to import bank statements into Xero from a PDF and closed bank account statements into QuickBooks or Xero.
Tie out each month before you import
- Opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance on the Old National statement, to the cent.
- Chain the months: each closing balance equals the next statement's opening balance.
- Sum the file's or feed's lines for the statement period and compare them with the statement's net change. A difference usually means a missing transaction type, an overlapping download, or a date range off by a day.
- Spot-check the first and last days of the period and the largest few items against the PDF.
The full method is in check a bank statement PDF is complete before you import it. Our free tie-out checker runs in your browser and shows the row where a CSV stops balancing. Then reconcile one statement at a time, oldest first; if QuickBooks says the beginning balance is off, see beginning balance doesn't match.

Where LedgerReady fits
For Old National, exports reach back 13 months on ONPointe Essentials and 90 days in the Small Business Multi-Account Report, and the bank's guides disagree on whether statements stay online for 7 years or 24 months, so PDF statements saved as they arrive are the record for older months, Xero and an account about to close. If you'd rather not convert and check each month yourself, LedgerReady turns digital statement PDFs into a QBO file, a Xero CSV, a plain CSV and a tie-out sheet showing every month matches its opening and closing balance. It costs $15 per statement-month, and we aim to deliver within 12 hours. Tie-out guarantee: if the output doesn't reconcile to the statement's opening and closing balances and we can't fix it, you don't pay for that statement.
Skip the manual work
We turn statement PDFs into QBO, Xero and CSV files plus a tie-out sheet. $15 per statement-month, $149 for a 12-month catch-up. Prefer to check it yourself? Our tie-out checker runs in your browser. See how pros do catch-up.
